Songmakers (Yr 10-11)

songwritersA day camp made possible through the support of the Yuin Folk Club and Cobargo Folk Festival.

The Songmakers camp is a chance for young people from SE NSW to prepare their acts for the Cobargo Folk Festival.  Some great musical tutors assist the students on the day before the Cobargo Folk Festival starts.  This Thursday camp is organised with the help of music teachers at SE region secondary schools.

The first version of this camp at The Crossing was started with the inspiration of Dave Crowden assisted by Daniel Champagne.  Other local songwriters such as Heath Cullen, Robin Martin, Michael Menager, Pete Wild, Melanie Horsnell, and David Ross MacDonald also helped build the momentum for youth music in South East NSW.  Early sessions at the camp included ‘recipe for a song’, ‘story to chorus’, ‘how to grow your voice’, ‘pushing through writers block’, ‘rythmn and groove’, ‘stagecraft and banter’, ‘bridging moods’, ‘local and catchy’, and  ‘plugging in your best sound’.

The songmakers camp is a great stepping stone to performance on the Crossing Youth Stage at the Cobargo Folk Festival and to the youth tent at the Candelo Village Festival.
