‘Hike and bike your body to a new altitude’
The Sea to Snow Journey is 250km from the sea at Bermagui to the Snowy Mountains in NSW, Australia by hike and bike. The journey targets Year 10 Students, but year 9 and 11 students may also apply.
Students who do the Sea to Snow clearly demonstrate organisation skills, persistence, teamwork and leadership. These qualities are hard to assess in interviews but are sought after by employers and scholarship committees. The Sea to Snow Journey can also be counted as an expedition for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The short clip below of the journey was made by a young participant (thanks Kade Brown), like most new experiences, it starts shakily, but becomes still and steep! (thanks Heath Cullen for the song)
3 day Training Camp Term 2, early May
9 day Journey Term 2, late May
Minimum 10 participants, maximum 14. Up to 7 guys and 7 girls will be accepted each year for the journey.
Scholarship support is available by selling Crossing recipe books that also help explain the journey. Two journey scholarships for aboriginal students are also available from the Biamanga National Park Board of Management.
Sea to Snow Leadership Achievement – ‘Get into the wild and find yourself’
The Sea to Snow journey develops your leadership skills and confidence, and provides life-long friendships. It’s a stand-out achievement on your resume that starts conversations with new employers.
The journey can be counted as an expedition for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. You may directly enter the Gold award if you are 16yrs. Once you have been accepted by The Crossing you can then do an online Duke of Edinburgh Award registration making The Crossing your Award Unit (but you must pay a separate fee to the Award Scheme for this).
